Report: Romo healthy, availability now a 'coaching decision'

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys will soon have a decision to make - very soon.

Quarterback Tony Romo is healthy enough for game action and whether he'll be active - or start - is now a "coaching decision," rather than a medical one, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Depending how he responds during the week's practice, Romo could suit up Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, barring any setbacks.

Werder added Romo should ramp up his work in practice Wednesday.

Because of Dak Prescott's breakout campaign, it's unclear whether Romo will return to the starting lineup.

The Cowboys' front office made it clear Romo was the team's starter earlier in the season, but as the campaign has worn on, the club's stance has softened.

With Prescott playing at a Pro Bow-level and Dallas boasting an NFC-best 7-1 record, it's possible the coaches opt to sit Romo in order to avoid messing with the momentum built over the first half of the season.
