The Colorado Rockies officially unveiled Bud Black as the seventh manager in team history, introducing him at a press conference Monday.

The Rockies had been on the lookout for a new manager since Oct. 3, following Walt Weiss' resignation after four years with the team, citing a poor relationship with the front office as a reason for his departure.

Black last managed the San Diego Padres from 2007-15 amassing a 649-713 record and received manager of the year honors in 2010 after helping guide the Padres to a 90-71 record - the last time the franchise had a winning season and only their second 90-win season since 1998.

Black's name had been linked to several managerial openings, including the Washington Nationals last year, who had a deal in place with Black before talks broke off, leading to the hiring of Dusty Baker.

Following news of the hiring, National League MVP candidate and Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado said he supported the decision and looked forward to working under Black.

Black will take over a team coming off a 75-87 season, whose offensive prowess is front and center, with Charlie Blackmon, D.J. LeMahieu, Carlos Gonzalez, and Arenado. However, the team has struggled to develop pitchers, posting the league's highest ERA from 2012-14 and the second highest from 2015-16.
