Fenerbahce striker Robin Van Persie was lucky to avoid serious injury after being stretchered off during Sunday's 3-1 victory over Belediyespor, according to the Evening Standard.

Van Persie, 33, was taken off in the 39th minute with a bandage covering his bloodied eye and rushed to hospital, prompting fears about his condition.

Luckily, Fenerbahce doctor Burak Kunduracioglu's update was promising, indicating that van Persie had torn his left eyelid, but did not experience vision loss.

Any further doubts over van Persie's condition were quelled when the striker returned to Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium to watch the second half of action.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United standout received stitches on the eyelid in question, with hopes he'll be fit for a Turkish league clash against Istanbul rival Galatasaray on Nov. 20.
