Like many hitters who step to the plate against Noah Syndergaard, a horse named after the New York Mets pitcher struck out Saturday at the Breeders' Cup.

Syndergaard - the two-year-old colt - finished fifth in the Breeders' Cup Sentient Jet Juvenile, which was won by Classic Empire, with Not This Time and Practical Joke finishing place and show.

The horse named after the flame-throwing, blond-haired pitcher broke out of the gates in second place, leading for a portion of the race before giving way to the eventual winner.

Syndergaard owns two wins in four career starts, and is expected to be a contender for the Triple Crown next year.
