Vanek's status downgraded to week-to-week

Detroit Red Wings forward Thomas Vanek will be out longer than expected, as head coach Jeff Blashill announced Sunday that he's now week-to-week with an unspecified injury.

The injury, initially announced Tuesday, has already kept Vanek out of two games.

Vanek, 32, is tied for the team lead with eight points.
