Report: Bale's new contract pays him more than Ronaldo, Messi

Don't tell Cristiano Ronaldo, but Gareth Bale is about to take another financial record away from him.

Bale surpassed the Portuguese as the world's most expensive footballer when he moved to Real Madrid in 2013 for a reported transfer fee of £85 million - both men are now behind Paul Pogba on that opulent list - and now, according to the Guardian, the Welshman has overtaken his teammate when it comes to wages as well.

Bale agreed to a contract extension with Los Blancos on Sunday, and Ed Aarons reports that the 27-year-old will now be paid a mammoth weekly salary of £600,000 per week before taxes.

The new wage packet, which works out to roughly £350,000 per week after taxes, would eclipse the £288,000 Ronaldo is reportedly earning at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The deal makes the man bun-wearing winger the most well-paid footballer on the planet, per Aarons, with the six year contract set to pay him over £150 million in salaries and bonuses.

How long that distinction lasts, however, remains up in the air.

Ronaldo, 31, has long discussed his desire to ink a new deal with Real Madrid and continue playing until his body fails him, and doing so would require a new contract; his current deal expires in 2018.

Whenever he does agree to fresh terms, it would be a safe bet to assume that he'll regain the crown as Real Madrid's highest-paid star.
