Texas Tech president wants to 'change the culture' of fans after F-bomb chants

During Saturday's broadcast of the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game, viewers watching on TV and fans in the stands could hear "F--- you, Baker" loud and clear, as Baker Mayfield made his return to Lubbock, Texas after playing for the Red Raiders in 2013.

Mayfield transferred to Oklahoma in 2014, where he finished fourth in Heisman voting in 2015 after sitting out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Mayfield's return to Texas helped the Sooners come away a 66-59 victory.

The actions of the fans during the game not only had Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury unimpressed, it led to President Lawrence Schovanec meeting with a variety of school groups and associations to "try to change the culture" of Red Raider fans, according to Don Williams of the Avalanche-Journal.

In a statement released Wednesday, Schovanec said the university "deeply regrets the behavior of some students and fans at Saturday night's football game against the University of Oklahoma. The behavior displayed is not representative of Texas Tech, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

“The Office of the President is proactively working alongside the Department of Athletics, the Center for Campus Life, and the Student Government Association to seek solutions and actions to prevent unacceptable conduct at all future events.”

Texas Tech's next home game is Nov. 5 against Texas.
