Missouri loses Scherer, Beckner Jr. to torn ACLs

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Tuesday was a terrible day for Missouri's defense, as head coach Barry Odom told Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Michael Scherer and Terry Beckner Jr. both have torn ACLs.

Scherer, a senior linebacker, leads the Tigers with 53 tackles on the season, while Beckner, the No. 2 prospect in the country for the recruiting class of 2015, has 24 tackles on the campaign.

Both players were doubtful for last weekend's 51-45 loss to Middle Tennessee, but saw action in the contest.

With the injury, Scherer's career at Missouri is done, while Beckner will return for his junior season in 2017.

It's the second straight season Beckner has torn his ACL, with the injury occurring on his other knee last year.
