Report: Jeff Tedford is Fresno State's top coaching candidate
Two days after firing Tim DeRuyter, Fresno State has reportedly settled on alum Jeff Tedford as the leading candidate to fill its head coaching vacancy, according to Alex Marvez of SportingNews.
Tedford played at Fresno State in 1981 and 1982, before returning to coach from 1992-97. After leaving the Bulldogs to become the offensive coordinator at Oregon, Tedford coached Cal for over a decade, before being fired in 2012.
Currently, Tedford is an offensive analyst at Washington, following one season as head coach of the BC Lions (CFL) in 2015.
Under California law, Fresno State's position must be posted for 14 days, meaning it can't be filled until at least Nov. 6.
Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau was announced as the Bulldogs' interim head coach. Kiesau, receivers coach Burl Toler, and special teams coordinator Dave Ungerer all coached under Tedford at Cal.
