Houston Texans starting right tackle Derek Newton was carted off the field during the first quarter of Monday night's game against the Denver Broncos with an apparent leg injury.

An air cast was placed on both of Newton's legs before he was carted to the locker room.

He suffered the injury on a non-contact play. He was bracing for impact against an on-rushing defender when he crumpled to the ground in a heap.

Newton has battled a knee ailment this season, but has played and started in five of the team's games.

He signed a five-year, $26.5-million extension in 2015.
