As was reported last month, Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk will not be ready for next week's season opener as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Celts president Danny Ainge said Thursday that OIynyk will likely be shelved until mid-November.

"Kelly won't be ready to play the first game," Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich. "I think optimistically we're looking at the middle of November for his return."

The 7-foot Canadian still hasn't been cleared for contact after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in May.

The Celtics are dealing with other injuries to key players as well, as Marcus Smart sprained his ankle in Wednesday's preseason finale. While an initial report said the point guard could miss a couple of weeks, Ainge said Thursday that remains unknown.

"We don't know enough to determine whether he'll be ready to play opening night or how long he'll be out," he said.
