Here are the fantasy implications of Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy likely missing Week 7's game with the Miami Dolphins due to a hamstring injury:

While the hamstring strain McCoy sustained in practice was described as "mild to moderate," it's enough to keep him out of Sunday's matchup in Miami. McCoy has been in fine form, averaging just under 100 rushing yards per game this season and scoring seven TDs; the Bills, perhaps unsurprisingly, lead the league in rushing yards per game.

McCoy misses out on a plum matchup against a Miami defense that's allowing the second-most rushing yards per game (147). Backup Mike Gillislee is the obvious fantasy replacement, as the ex-Dolphin has averaged 5.8 yards per carry on 70 career attempts while scoring a touchdown in each of the last two games. In garbage time against the 49ers in Week 6, Gillislee ripped off a 44-yard touchdown, while recording 60 yards on six carries overall.

Reggie Bush (on passing downs) and rookie Jonathan Williams could also be in the backfield mix, but considering the duo have combined for just 14 touches, neither is a threat to significantly eat into Gillislee's workload.

What about Tyrod?

The prospects of QB Tyrod Taylor are difficult to assess. He leads all quarterbacks with 236 rushing yards, but doesn't offer much with his arm, throwing for under 180 yards in four of six games. The absence of star WR Sammy Watkins hasn't helped, and while Taylor theoretically should have to carry a heavier offensive burden with McCoy out, he may not have the weapons to do so.

At the very least, Taylor avoids mistakes (just three turnovers thus far) and offers enough upside as a runner to remain a solid bye-week replacement QB, particularly in a favorable matchup against Miami.

Waiver wire targets

Aside from Gillislee, other realistically-available running backs include:

  • Jacquizz Rodgers, Buccaneers (at 49ers): Doug Martin (hamstring) isn't ready to return, so Rodgers should again see all the work he can handle against the 49ers, who have allowed a 100-yard rusher in five straight games. Rodgers received a whopping 35 touches in Week 5 against Carolina, turning them into 129 yards.
  • Matt Asiata, Vikings (at Eagles): Asiata splits carries with Jerick McKinnon, but has scored a touchdown in two straight games. He's coming off his most productive outing of the season in Week 5 against Houston, carrying 14 times for 55 yards and a score, while catching three passes for 46 yards.
  • Mike Davis, 49ers (vs. Buccaneers): A rotation between Davis and Shaun Draughn will be used with Carlos Hyde (shoulder) sidelined, but Davis is the safer pick due to a presumed early-down role. A desperation option only, Davis is averaging just 1.7 yards per carry through 45 career attempts.
