Oregon State's Garretson out for season, McMaryion named starter

Oregon State quarterback Darell Garretson has played his last football game of 2016, and as a result, third-stringer Marcus McMaryion will be handed the reigns this coming weekend.

Head coach Gary Andersen announced Monday that Garretson will miss the rest of the season due to a broken ankle he suffered in Oregon State's 19-14 loss to Utah on Saturday, according to Gina Mizell of The Oregonian. Andersen also confirmed that backup Conor Blount is also ruled out of the Beavers' upcoming game against Washington with a knee injury.

With Oregon State seemingly decimated under center for its upcoming game against No. 5 Washington, the control of the Beavers offense is being handed to Marcus McMaryion, who performed admirably after both Garretson and Blount succumbed to injuries, completing 5-of-9 passes for 76 yards and one passing touchdown in Saturday's loss.

"Just like Coach A said, it's the next man up," McMaryion said following Beavers practice Monday. "That happened to be me and that's my number, so I'm just gonna go out there to do what I can to my team in the best position to win."

Despite naming McMaryion as starting quarterback for Saturday's game, Andersen did acknowledge the potential for quarterback-turned-receiver Seth Collins to receive some snaps this week.

"I don't think it's gonna be any surprise attack if Seth plays a little quarterback with what he's done in the past," Andersen said. "So we'll see where it takes us."
