Watch: Baez uses short hop to convert heads-up DP

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Javier Baez is having some sort of postseason.

The Chicago Cubs infielder has come up with some clutch hits in the playoffs, but in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was flexing his defensive instincts.

With Dodgers on first and second and one out in the sixth inning, Joc Pederson connected on a lazy liner that headed straight to Baez. Rather than catch the ball in the air, though, Baez cleverly played it on the short hop and fired it to Addison Russell to pick up the force at second.

Baez's defensive expertise didn't end there, though, as he motioned to a confused Russell to throw it to third and nab Adrian Gonzalez in a rundown, ending the inning.

Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts argued that the play should have been ruled an infield fly, negating the runners' need to run, but to no avail.
