10-Team Fantasy Basketball Mock Draft

Jesse Johnson / USA TODAY Sports

This is the second of theScore's two fantasy basketball mock drafts for the upcoming 2016-17 NBA season.

This is an eight-category, head-to-head league (points, assists, rebounds, steals, assists, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and 3-point shots made) with the following roster spots: PG, SG, SF, PF, C, C, G, F, Bench, Bench, Bench, Bench.

Draft Participants: Esten McLaren, Gino Bottero, Joseph Casciaro, Andrew Potter, Jason Wilson, James Bisson, Josh Wegman, Ken Conrad, Will Lou, and Josh Ghatak.

Round 1

Pick Player Owner
1 Russell Westbrook (OKC) McLaren
2 James Harden (HOU) Bottero
3 Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN) Casciaro
4 Steph Curry (GSW) Potter
5 Kevin Durant (GSW) Wilson
6 Anthony Davis (NOP) Bisson
7 DeMarcus Cousins (SAC) Wegman
8 Chris Paul (LAC) Conrad
9 LeBron James (CLE) Lou
10 John Wall (WAS) Ghatak

Wilson: Team Casciaro buys into the Towns hype and foregoes the likes of Curry and Durant to grab the sophomore big man with the third overall pick. This is going to become the norm. He established durability in his rookie season, which gives him an edge over a player like Davis.

Other than that minor deviation, there aren't any surprises in the first round, unless you count Team Ghatak finishing off with Wall, though it's only slightly higher than his ADP according to FantasyPros. There will be some deviation from draft to draft, but this should represent the usual suspects accurately.

Round 2

Pick Player Owner
11 Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) Ghatak
12 Kawhi Leonard (SAS) Lou
13 Hassan Whiteside (MIA) Conrad
14 Damian Lillard (POR) Wegman
15 Paul George (IND) Bisson
16 Draymond Green (GSW) Wilson
17 Jimmy Butler (CHI) Potter
18 Blake Griffin (LAC) Casciaro
19 Paul Millsap (ATL) Bottero
20 LaMarcus Aldridge (SAS) McLaren

Potter: Team Lou locks in an elite one-two punch on the wings with LeBron in Round 1 and Leonard in Round 2 - smart, considering the drop-off in talent at small forward. While Leonard doesn't offer the same fantasy upside as interior menace Whiteside or flashy scorer Lillard, he arguably has the highest floor of any player taken in Round 2. It wouldn't be a shock to see him go earlier.

Round 3

Pick Player Owner
21 Carmelo Anthony (NYK) McLaren
22 Kyle Lowry (TOR) Bottero
23 Kyrie Irving (CLE) Casciaro
24 Gordon Hayward (UTA) Potter
25 Kemba Walker (CHA) Wilson
26 Isaiah Thomas (BOS) Bisson
27 Klay Thompson (GSW) Wegman
28 Victor Oladipo (OKC) Conrad
29 Kevin Love (CLE) Lou
30 Eric Bledsoe (PHO) Ghatak

Wilson: While Team Casciaro might have reached a little for Towns in round one, Irving falls a few spots as he's typically going the middle of the second round.

Team Potter selected Hayward before news of his broken finger was announced, which will possibly sideline the wing for 20 games. He has also decided to stay away from PF and C through the first three rounds, hitching his hopes to finding depth at those positions later.

Similarly, Team Ghatak has loaded up on guards, though Antetokounmpo offers some flexibility in that department, being eligible at PG, SG and SF on some sites.

Round 4

Pick Player Owner
31 Al Horford (BOS) Ghatak
32 Reggie Jackson (DET) Lou
33 Serge Ibaka (ORL) Conrad
34 DeMar DeRozan (TOR) Wegman
35 Andrew Wiggins (MIN) Bisson
36 Andre Drummond (DET) Wilson
37 Nicolas Batum (CHA) Potter
38 C.J. McCollum (POR) Casciaro
39 Brook Lopez (BKN) Bottero
40 Kristaps Porzingis (NYK) McLaren

Potter: Horford sliding all the way to 31 represents a major steal. His outlook isn't much different than former teammate Paul Millsap's; both present solid scoring - including 3-point shots -- plus rebounding and defensive production. He's a great C1 option if you miss out on the "Big Three" in Round 1 and Whiteside in Round 2.

Had Team Lou known Jackson would be hurt to start the season, it's likely that the Pistons' PG would've fallen to Round 5 or 6.

Drummond's ADP fluctuates wildly depending on the site. On one hand, he's a transcendent rebounder that still offers room for growth in scoring and blocks, but his atrocious free-throw shooting forces his owners to consider punting that category entirely.

Round 5

Pick Player Owner
41 DeAndre Jordan (LAC) McLaren
42 Marc Gasol (MEM) Bottero
43 Ricky Rubio (MIN) Casciaro
44 Derrick Favors (UTA) Potter
45 Rudy Gobert (UTA) Wilson
46 Pau Gasol (SAS) Bisson
47 Nikola Vucevic (ORL) Wegman
48 Nerlens Noel (PHI) Conrad
49 Goran Dragic (MIA) Lou
50 Dwight Howard (ATL) Ghatak

Wilson: Team McLaren might have the steal of the early rounds by leading off the fifth round with Jordan. He's set to get solid FG% returns to go with elite rebounding and more than two blocks per game. The rest of Round 5 followed suit with the majority of the drafters adding big men.

Team Conrad probably could have waited a round or two to select Noel, who may miss the start to the season due to injury and plays in a crowded frontcourt.

Round 6

Pick Player Owner
51 Jonas Valanciunas (TOR) Ghatak
52 Evan Fournier (ORL) Lou
53 Mike Conley (MEM) Conrad
54 Rajon Rondo (CHI) Wegman
55 Jeff Teague (IND) Bisson
56 Dwyane Wade (CHI) Wilson
57 Greg Monroe (MIL) Potter
58 Danilo Gallinari (DEN) Casciaro
59 Dennis Schroder (ATL) Bottero
60 Devin Booker (PHO) McLaren

Potter: Team Conrad, Wegman and Bisson each added secondary PGs to back up the PG1s they took earlier in the draft. Conley and Teague offer safe floor across all major categories, particularly assists.

Rondo is the final transcendent source of assists on the board but has serious limitations in scoring and shooting percentages. Owners who end up with either Drummond or DeAndre Jordan could look to add Ricky Rubio in Round 5 or Rondo in Round 6, electing to forego FT percentage.

Round 7

Pick Player Owner
61 Jabari Parker (MIL) McLaren
62 Brandon Knight (PHO) Bottero
63 Nikola Jokic (DEN) Casciaro
64 Ryan Anderson (HOU) Potter
65 D'Angelo Russell (LAL) Wilson
66 Gorgui Dieng (MIN) Bisson
67 Tobias Harris (DET) Wegman
68 Trevor Ariza (HOU) Conrad
69 Clint Capela (HOU) Lou
70 Rudy Gay (SAC) Ghatak

Wilson: Team Casciaro again benefits from a player dropping relative to ADP as C Jokic has been going as early as the fourth round. Team Lou, on the other hand, reaches for Capela, who is barely being drafted within the top 100. Capela could be great value as a late-round flier, but he's rarely going this early.

Round 8

Pick Player Owner
71 Dirk Nowitzki (DAL) Ghatak
72 Chandler Parsons (MEM) Lou
73 Marcin Gortat (WAS) Conrad
74 Jahlil Okafor (PHI) Wegman
75 Otto Porter (WAS) Bisson
76 Bradley Beal (WAS) Wilson
77 Jeremy Lin (BKN) Potter
78 Luol Deng (LAL) Casciaro
79 Thaddeus Young (IND) Bottero
80 Enes Kanter (OKC) McLaren

Potter: Team Bottero better hope the site he's playing on has given James Harden eligibility at SF. Otherwise, Young represents his SF1. He has still amassed three great skilled bigs in Paul Millsap, Brook Lopez and Marc Gasol, as well as some solid mid-tier guards in Dennis Schroder and Brandon Knight, but he waited too long to address the shallowest position in fantasy.

I'm a little biased here, but Team Potter made an inspired pick. I have targeted (and drafted) Lin in Round 8 in the majority of my drafts so far, and I still believe that's a discount relative to what he could do as the lead guard on a Nets team devoid of established veterans. I'm looking to him for 15 points and six assists in 32-plus minutes per game this season.

Round 9

Pick Player Owner
81 Derrick Rose (NYK) McLaren
82 Myles Turner (IND) Bottero
83 Darren Collison (SAC) Casciaro
84 Robin Lopez (CHI) Potter
85 Jae Crowder (BOS) Wilson
86 Zach LaVine (MIN) Bisson
87 Emmanuel Mudiay (DEN) Wegman
88 Will Barton (DEN) Conrad
89 Kent Bazemore (ATL) Lou
90 Jordan Clarkson (LAL) Ghatak

Wilson: Team Conrad decides to deviate from convention and takes Barton well before his consensus ADP. Without a guarantee to be a starter, this selection could easily backfire. Risk is not totally without reward, though, and he'll look like a genius if Barton starts and excels.

Team Ghatak elects to round out his guard depth with Clarkson and Elfrid Payton at the turn after selecting five consecutive forwards or centers. Both have somewhat underachieved, which has dropped draft stock, but they could both be sneaky plays.

Round 10

Pick Player Owner
91 Elfrid Payton (ORL) Ghatak
92 Eric Gordon (HOU) Lou
93 Robert Covington (PHI) Conrad
94 Steven Adams (OKC) Wegman
95 Julius Randle (LAL) Bisson
96 Harrison Barnes (DAL) Wilson
97 Buddy Hield (NOP) Potter
98 Avery Bradley (BOS) Casciaro
99 Nikola Mirotic (CHI) Bottero
100 Jamal Murray (DEN) McLaren

Potter: At this point in the draft, you're not seeing many standout category contributors for a head-to-head format, but there are still plenty of young options that are just an injury or two away from being a focal point in their offenses. You can already see that happening in Philadelphia with Covington due for more owrk with Ben Simmons hurt, and in New Orleans with Hield.

Team McLaren nearly goes off the board with Murray, who has an ADP of 120th overall. Still, with 19-year-old Devin Booker and injury-prone Derrick Rose as his only depth behind Westbrook, he's looking to strike gold with a high-upside flier at guard. He might have been better served by targeting Deron Williams (14.1 points, 5.8 assists last season) with one of his picks.

Round 11

Pick Player Owner
101 Jusuf Nurkic (DEN) McLaren
102 Kenneth Faried (DEN) Bottero
103 DeMarre Carroll (TOR) Casciaro
104 Mason Plumlee (POR) Potter
105 Danny Green (SAS) Wilson
106 Zach Randolph (MEM) Bisson
107 Deron Williams (DAL) Wegman
108 Tyreke Evans (NOP) Conrad
109 JaMychal Green (MEM) Lou
110 J.J. Redick (LAC) Ghatak

Wilson: Redick led all shooting guards in field goal percentage in 2015-16, making him a fantastic late-round selection for Team Ghatak. Team Lou goes off the board again to take JaMychal Green, who excelled in bursts once his minutes increased following C Marc Gasol's injury a year ago. He should start at PF, and he could easily be one of the best under-the-radar picks.

I'm taking Danny Green here because he cannot be nearly as bad as he was last season. He was below career averages in every category despite not seeing a massive drop in minutes. I expect his FG and 3P percentages to go up. If he stinks, he's an easy drop as an 11th-round pick.

Round 12

Pick Player Owner
111 Wesley Matthews (DAL) Ghatak
112 Joel Embiid (PHI) Lou
113 Brandon Ingram (LAL) Conrad
114 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (DET) Wegman
115 Rodney Hood (UTA) Bisson
116 Marcus Morris (DET) Wilson
117 Ish Smith (DET) Potter
118 Tristan Thompson (CLE) Casciaro
119 Al Jefferson (IND) Bottero
120 Ersan Ilyasova (OKC) McLaren

Potter: Team Wegman selects an absolute workhorse with their final pick, grabbing the player who finished fifth in minutes per game last season in Caldwell-Pope. He has room to grow across the board, especially in scoring -- 30.9 percent 3-point shooting from a wing is rough. If he can refine his game in small ways, the volume of minutes he's bound to see ensures solid all-around production.

The Embiid hype train is reaching full-steam; you probably won't see him falling to Round 12 at this point (which might be a major mistake) but it's been encouraging to see him fly around the court and start converting his raw athletic potential into actual fantasy production.
