Ozil's halftime Germany substitution not due to injury
And breathe, Arsenal supporters.
Midfield wizard Mesut Ozil gave the Gunners a mild scare Tuesday when he departed Germany's 2-0 win over Northern Ireland at halftime, but he later revealed on Twitter the reason wasn't injury-related.
"Thanks for taking care because of my substitution but everything is all right guys," Ozil wrote on his account.
The sight of Ozil leaving early is rare. Known for playing all 90 minutes of any Germany friendly or qualifier, he is always at risk of picking up a muscular problem.
It's not uncommon to see Arsenal players limping back to north London from international duty. The perils of the two-week break came into sharp focus as both Riccardo Montolivo and Arkadiusz Milik returned to their respective clubs with ACL tears.
But no such conundrum exists here.
In the midst of a nine-match unbeaten run, Arsenal is preparing for four consecutive home fixtures in three competitions over the next two weeks.
If anything, there is good news from the sidelines. Midfielder Francis Coquelin is nearing his own return from a knee injury, and Aaron Ramsey is back in training with Arsenal.
Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Theo Walcott all appear healthy after their England call-ups, and Alex Iwobi is in good spirits after scoring his first international goal for Nigeria.
