Marshall: Jets in 'perfect position' after 1-4 start

The New York Jets find themselves sitting 1-4 and tied for last in the AFC East after five games to open the 2016 season, already at risk of a sixth consecutive year missing out on the playoffs.

As disappointing as its early record may be, star wide receiver Brandon Marshall is certain that his team will respond accordingly and bounce back in the coming weeks.

"I'm more than confident that we will turn this thing around," Marshall said following Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, via Mark Cannizzaro of The New York Post.

"This is a perfect position for us," Marshall added. "We have great talent in this room. We're one of the most talented teams in the league. So, we can do one or two things - we can fold it up and cry, or we can stick together and continue to work. I'm already over this loss. We're going to turn this around. I promise you that. Starting right now. I promise you that."

Marshall isn't exactly wrong to point to the talent on the roster. Various position groups, like receiver and the defensive line, are indeed among the league's most impressive both in terms of top-end talent and depth.

But the clear shortcomings elsewhere, particularly so at quarterback, are still keeping this team from making the most of its potential.

Things won't get any easier for the Jets over the next two weeks, as they'll travel to Arizona for a Monday night matchup with the Cardinals before returning home to host the Baltimore Ravens.

Anything short of an even record over that challenging two-game stretch could be enough to write off the Jets' playoff chances regardless of the confidence still prevalent in the locker room.
