Napoli confirms Milik suffered torn ACL on international duty

Life without Gonzalo Higuain just got a little tougher.

Napoli confirmed the unfortunate news that Arkadiusz Milik - the summer signing tasked with replacing all those goals - suffered a "total rupture" of his ACL following tests with the club's medical staff.

The 22-year-old is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday morning. As is typical with these kinds of injuries, he's now likely miss the next six months of action.

Milik suffered the tear in his country's manic 3-2 win over Denmark on Saturday. He was sidelined for several minutes before attempting to play on toward the end of the first half.

Poland's media officer indicated later in the evening that Milik damaged his ACL, although there was optimism the tear was only partial.

Those hopes have now been dashed.

It means the €35-million man - who's scored seven goals in nine matches to start his Italy adventure - won't be available for any title push from the southern outfit.

The likes of Lorenzo Insigne and Manolo Gabbiadini will have an opportunity to carve a new role in Maurizio Sarri's starting XI. There is also speculation that Napoli could sign a free agent to supplement its attack, with Miroslav Klose, Dimitar Berbatov, and Emmanuel Adebayor all unattached.
