Stanford's McCaffrey 'banged up' in Washington State loss
Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey left Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury and did not return to the action.
McCaffrey was seen jogging off the field toward the locker room midway through the third quarter. The junior did come back to the sideline, but didn't see the field again in the Cardinal's 42-16 loss to Washington State.
"McCaffrey did get banged up," said coach David Shaw after the game. "But there was no reason to put him in late in the game. We just left him out."
Stanford, which has dropped its last two games, travels to South Bend next week to face Notre Dame. Shaw said McCaffrey's status will be determined later.
"We'll see how he is during the course of the week."
Prior to leaving the game, McCaffrey recorded 35 rushing yards, caught one pass, and returned three punt returns for 43 yards.
