Watch: Wood becomes 2nd reliever ever to hit playoff homer

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

Two innings after NLDS Game 2 starter Kyle Hendricks drove in two runs with a single, another Chicago Cubs pitcher did some damage with his bat.

In the fourth inning, Travis Wood hammered the first pitch he saw from San Francisco Giants right-hander George Kontos over the left-field wall to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead.

Ironically, Wood replaced an injured Hendricks in the contest an inning earlier.

Wood, who hit nine home runs during his career before Saturday's at-bat, became the third Cubs pitcher to hit a postseason home run, joining Kerry Wood and Rick Sutcliffe. He also became the first reliever to hit a long ball since Rosy Ryan in the 1924 World Series, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
