Hendricks removed after taking line drive off arm

Jerry Lai / USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks was removed from Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants in the fourth inning after he was hit in the right arm with a 94-mph line drive off the bat of Angel Pagan.

Hendricks finished the play but was unable to throw out Pagan at first base. He was met at the mound by manager Joe Maddon and the Cubs' training staff and attempted to throw several warmup pitches before removing himself from the game.

Travis Wood came on in relief and got the final out of the inning. Hendricks finished having allowed two runs off four hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The NL Cy Young candidate is coming off an exceptional regular season in which he went 16-8 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 190 innings.
