LSU-Florida postponed indefinitely due to Hurricane Matthew

Due to the impending Hurricane Matthew, Saturday's game between LSU and Florida has been postponed indefinitely with the possibility the game could be rescheduled later in the year.

"We had a very productive phone call today with a great spirit of cooperation between the universities' presidents and athletic directors and it became clear that the University of Florida could neither host nor travel to a game this weekend considering the circumstances," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey in a statement. "The developments of the hurricane in the last 24 hours, the projected magnitude of its impact and unknown aftermath of this storm have resulted in this decision to seek another date to play the LSU-Florida game."

Sankey said the league office looked for alternative sites to play, including Baton Rouge, but determined the storm to be too dangerous for travel.

The SEC office and both schools will seek a makeup date, but with Florida and LSU not sharing a bye week, it's unlikely they'll be able to do so this season. The Gators reportedly proposed playing on Nov. 19 and said they would cancel their game with Presbyterian, but LSU declined, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.

The Tigers host South Alabama that day.

The Category 4 hurricane should cause postponements of numerous games along the Atlantic coast this weekend.
