Report: Cowboys, Romo targeting Week 8 return
Tony Romo is slowly approaching his long-awaited return.
The Dallas Cowboys and the veteran quarterback are targeting Week 8 for his first action since suffering a back injury in the third game of the preseason, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Romo rejoining the team following a Week 7 bye was always thought to be the ideal scenario for Dallas, and that timeline holding steady through the first month of the season can only be taken as a positive sign for his progress.
Rapoport adds that Romo will ramp up his conditioning and throwing regime after reaching a mark six weeks removed from the injury Thursday.
Though Dak Prescott has impressed in each of his first three starts, and reports have indicated that he'd at least have a chance to remain the starter, he'll almost certainly give way to Romo when the veteran is cleared to play.
Dallas went an impressive 15-4 in the 19 games Romo started over the last two seasons, including a 12-3 finish en route to a division title in 2014.
