Wisconsin's Biegel out 2-4 weeks with foot injury, father says

Wisconsin's stifling defense will be be without Vince Biegel for two-to-four weeks, as his father told Jesse Temple of ESPN that the senior linebacker underwent surgery to insert a screw into his cracked foot Thursday night.

"He's been playing on it for the last couple weeks, and it was bothering him a little bit," Biegel's father, Rocky, said before estimating Vince's recovery time frame. "He had X-rays last night and confirmed it was cracked. He either plays on it, and then if he breaks it, then he's going to be out for eight weeks. Either way he's got to have surgery on it. It was just a crack and they're just putting a screw in it."

It's a blow to the Badgers as they embark on a very difficult stretch of their schedule. After Saturday's road contest at No. 4 Michigan, they have their bye week before facing No. 2 Ohio State, Iowa, and No. 15 Nebraska in consecutive weeks.

The younger Biegel, who is a defensive captain for the Badgers, has nine tackles and a sack on the season for the nation's top-ranked scoring defense. In his absence, coordinator Justin Wilcox will likely either move junior Jack Cichy to the outside from his interior position, or use Zack Baun and Garret Dooley to replace their leader.
