The Minnesota Twins announced the hiring of Derek Falvey on Monday as the club's new executive vice president and chief baseball officer.

"It's a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to lead the Twins baseball operations," Falvey said in a statement. "This is a proud, resilient franchise, and I'm eager to return championship-caliber baseball to the Twin cities."

Falvey spent the last nine seasons with the Cleveland Indians, most recently as the assistant general manager. He'll begin his new role with the Twins at the conclusion of the Indians' season.

The 33-year-old will have a full workload in Minnesota, as he'll be overseeing the major-league team, coaches, support staff, contract negotiations, player development, scouting, research and development, medical and communications.

"I believe the addition of Derek Falvey to the Minnesota Twins will markedly enhance our organizational excellence and bring championship baseball back to Minnesota," Twins owner Jim Pohlad said.
