Fernandez's funeral to take place Thursday
A private funeral for 24-year-old Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died Sunday during a boating accident, will take place Thursday, according to ESPN.
On Wednesday, fans have been invited to congregate in front of the West Plaza at Marlins Park to pay tribute to the deceased player during his final departure from the ballpark, which is set to take place at 2:16 p.m. ET.
A public visitation will follow beginning at 4 p.m. ET at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Miami.
Emilio Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, also died in the accident, which occurred when their boat crashed into a jetty at full speed off the southern tip of Miami Beach.
Fernandez, who was a two-time All-Star and the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year, was honored by the Marlins on Monday during an emotional contest against the New York Mets.
