Washington State's Shalom Luani won't be charged after fight
Washington State safety Shalom Luani won't face charges stemming from an Aug. 24 fight in a Domino's Pizza, Whitman County prosecutor Denis Tracy wrote in a letter to the man Luani was fighting with.
The letter, released Monday, said that while video evidence showed Luani throw a punch, leading to a broken nose for Kyle Medina, the act could be the result of self-defense.
"In this case, I believe there is enough evidence from which a jury could conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Luani hit Mr. Medina, once, with a fist to the nose, breaking the nose," Tracy wrote, according to Stefanie Loh of the Seattle Times. "In this case, it is my view that no reasonable jury could conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Luani was not acting in self-defense."
Cougars head coach Mike Leach suspended the senior for the season opener, but Luani's played the last two games while the investigation continued.
Through two games, Lunai has recorded seven total tackles and two interceptions.
