Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford's injury may accelerate a backfield transition already underway in Chicago, and something rookie runner Jordan Howard is embracing.

Howard, a fifth-round pick, cut into Langford's starting workload Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, then took over after Langford was carted off with an ankle injury.

Howard impressed on an unimpressive night for the Bears, rushing nine times for 45 yards and adding four catches for 47 yards.

"I felt pretty good getting a lot of playing time and getting a lot of work," Howard said after the game, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson. "I definitely feel comfortable, because I try to take advantage of all the reps I get. Since I’ve been here, the other backs and veterans, they’ve been keeping me up and catching me up to speed."

Even if Langford doesn't miss time, it's possible the Bears will make a move toward the future by installing their rookie as starter.
