1958 Masters

There have been plenty of memorable moments and unforgettable days at Augusta National over the years, but few match the historical significance of the 1958 edition of golf's most prestigious major.

Fittingly for a man who would soon be known as "The King," Palmer won his first career major on the same weekend the term "Amen Corner" was coined. It was also during the '58 Masters that Palmer's passionate fanbase became known as "Arnie's Army," thanks to Augusta allowing military members from a nearby base - Camp Gordon - onto the course for free, having them operate the scoreboards. Palmer, of course, was the fan favorite.

1960 US Open

As far as golf comebacks go, it's tough to top Palmer's rally at Cherry Hills.

The King started the final round tied for 15th, seven shots behind the leader. He carded a 6-under 65 to edge some amateur named Jack Nicklaus by two strokes.

The most famous beverage namesake

Legend has it that while Palmer and his wife always loved the simple mix of iced tea and lemonade in the comfort of their own home, it was at a Palm Springs restaurant in 1960 that the concoction became The Arnold Palmer.

According to Palmer, a woman near him ordered "that Palmer drink" after hearing the golfer ask for the intriguing combination.

Golf Channel co-founder

While plenty of golf fans now take their beloved channel for granted, it's easy to forget Palmer's role in getting the Golf Channel off the ground.

Palmer was a major player in securing financing for the project, and even flipped the ceremonial switch to launch the network in 1995.

King of the air

Perhaps the most surprising factoid for those unfamiliar with Palmer's legend is that of Palmer, the pilot. The King flew planes from 1956-2011, and even set a record in 1976 by using a Lear jet to navigate the globe in 57 hours, 25 minutes, and 42 seconds.

Business mogul

You'd be hard-pressed to find many athletes anywhere in the world who have accumulated the plethora of long-lasting endorsements Palmer did. Case in point, Palmer slotted in third behind Michael Jordan and David Beckham on Forbes' 2015 list of the highest-paid retired athletes.
