Marlins paint Fernandez's No. 16 on pitcher's mound
After the Miami Marlins canceled Sunday's home game following the tragic and sudden passing of their ace Jose Fernandez, the team paid tribute to the 24-year-old by painting his No. 16 on the pitcher's mound at Marlins Park.

Cap and glove, and #16 in chalk on mound. Marlins staff member kneeled in silent prayer behind hill. This community devastated.

The loss of Fernandez has sent shock waves throughout baseball, after the young star was killed in a boating accident early Sunday. In 42 career starts at Marlins Park, Fernandez put up an impressive 29-2 record with a 1.49 ERA and 346 strikeouts.
Fernandez didn't suffer a loss at home until April of this season, a stretch of 26 unbeaten starts that included a major-league record 17 consecutive wins.
