Bills' Ryan: 'Heightened concern' Watkins won't play vs. Cardinals

Timothy T. Ludwig / USA TODAY Sports

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said Thursday there's "heightened concern" that wide receiver Sammy Watkins won't be able to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals due to a lingering foot injury.

Watkins was unable to practice Thursday for the second consecutive day.

The 23-year-old has been playing through foot pain stemming from offseason surgery, and has not been his usual explosive self.

After racking up over 1,000 receiving yards and averaging 17.5 yards per catch in 2015, Watkins has just six catches for 63 yards and no touchdowns through two games.

Without Watkins, the Bills' midseason transition away from the system of former offensive coordinator Greg Roman - who was fired last week - would be even more difficult.
