Team USA didn't like tweets from Kessel, Ryan

While many seem to have found humor in tweets sent by erstwhile Team USA members Phil Kessel and Bobby Ryan, in Toronto the current Team USA isn't laughing.

The team met with media Wednesday following a 4-2 loss to Canada that saw their ouster from the semifinals, and they immediately voiced their criticisms of their countrymen and the aforementioned social media takes.

"Hopefully it’s not directed at us because this group gave it everything they got and it would be disrespectful," Derek Stepan said, according to TSN's Mark Masters.

Boston Bruins forward David Backes appeared to be the most taken aback by the remarks, even hinting at possible future repercussions.

"I understand there were hard feelings, but as a guy who stands by my teammates it’s a little distasteful and aggravating," said Backes. "Those comments don’t get lost in the fray. Those comments will be remembered."

Zach Parise - who questioned Kessel's ability to participate in the tournament due to injury - took solace in his team's fight.

"Everyone can have their opinion. They can say what they want to say," said Parise. "We were here. We tried hard. We played hard. We came up short."

The Americans will close out the tournament Thursday when they take on the Czech Republic in a game with nothing more than national pride on the line.
