Report: Tottenham's Kane could miss up to 2 months with ankle issue

Tottenham is facing the possibility of being without Harry Kane for up to two months after he fell awkwardly and injured his ankle against Sunderland on Sunday.

The north London side is waiting on the results of a second scan, but there's concern that Kane suffered grade-two ligament damage to his ankle, which could rule him out for six-to-eight weeks, according to Dominic Fifield of the Guardian.

Kane, who scored the winning goal in Tottenham's 1-0 victory, sustained the injury late in the match when his ankle twisted during an awkward fall. He was later seen leaving White Hart Lane on crutches while wearing a protective walking boot.

As Tottenham waits for the results of the follow-up scan, the club reportedly received positive news from the initial examination Monday, which revealed the English forward did not break a bone.

Fifield adds Kane may only have to miss 10 days if the scan reveals a grade-one sprain. However, there's also still a chance the damage could be as severe as a grade-three tear, which would likely rule him out for the remainder of 2016.

"He got a ligament ankle problem and we need to assess every day and see," Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said Tuesday. "Today it's impossible to give a time for a recovery. I am not a doctor. I can only explain what the doctors said to me."

"There are different rumours. We cannot guess whether it's eight weeks, 10, four, one. It's impossible to assess today and know how long."

Kane's loss could see Vincent Janssen receive considerable playing time up front, as Tottenham scrambles to prepare for several important fixtures with Premier League rivals Manchester City, Leicester City, and Arsenal in Kane's potential absence.

Janssen could get his first chance to stand in for Kane on Wednesday during Tottenham's League Cup fixture against Gillingham.
