Rangers suspends Barton 3 weeks for training ground bust-up
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has decided to suspend Joey Barton for three weeks following the English midfielder's outburst during training last week.
In a statement, the Scottish side writes that Barton will also be forbidden from participating at the team's training ground in Auchenhowie.
"The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened," the team said.
The incident occurred after reviewing the team's humiliating 5-1 defeat to rivals Celtic. According to Sky Sports, Barton, who joined the team this past summer, got into a heated altercation with Warburton and teammate Andy Halliday.
He met with the team's board members at Ibrox Stadium on Monday to learn his fate. When asked by Sky Sports after the meeting if he was still a Rangers player, Barton said, "I think so."
Shortly after the incident, Barton attempted to explain his point of view, saying that it was a matter of caring too deeply after the team's poor performance.
