Thiago Silva ends Brazil limbo with 1st call-up since 2015 Copa America
Thiago Silva is back from purgatory.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender returned to Brazil's international setup Friday - his first call-up since June 2015.
A dispute with former Brazil manager Dunga left Silva in the cold. He was stripped of his captaincy after a particularly clumsy showing at the 2015 Copa America. Silva committed a handball that gifted a penalty to Paraguay in the quarter-finals, which the Selecao later lost on spot-kicks.
But there is no such friction between the player and new boss Tite, who would've called up Silva for September's batch of World Cup qualifiers if not for a hip injury.
He will now have a chance to suit up for qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela on Oct. 6 and Oct. 11, respectively.
Roberto Firmino has also been granted a second chance by the former Corinthians manager, after a similarly long absence from the international scene.
The Liverpool forward was held out of Friday's contest against Chelsea with a minor groin problem.
Other notable inclusions are Douglas Costa, Oscar, and Alex Muralha, the Flamengo goalkeeper who's received his first call-up.
Here is the entirety of a strong 24-man squad:
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Muralha, Weverton
Defenders: Marquinhos, Miranda, Thiago Silva, Gil, Dani Alves, Fagner, Marcelo, Filipe Luis
Midfielders: Casemiro, Fernandinho, Paulinho, Renato Augusto, Giuliano, Coutinho, Willian, Lucas Lima, Oscar
Forwards: Neymar, Douglas Costa, Firmino, Gabriel Jesus
