Brady, Welker to reunite for weekend workout

Suspended New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is reuniting with an old friend for a weekend workout.

Wes Welker, who starred as a Patriots receiver from 2007-2012, explained how the arrangements were made in a radio appearance on 560 WQAM in Miami on Friday.

"It was funny. I hit him up (because) I'm actually heading up to the game (Saturday), and I hit him up to do dinner Saturday night," Welker said, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. "(Brady) was like 'I'm going to be flying in from Ann Arbor later, but hey, how about that morning we go throw?' And I'm just sitting there, like, 'I was just thinking about dinner, but yeah, sure.' I'll get over there early and we can throw a little bit. That's the only thing we really have planned."

Brady, who isn't eligible to return from his "Deflategate" suspension until Week 5, will be honored at his alma mater Michigan's game Saturday.

Welker last played in the NFL for the St. Louis Rams in 2015, making 13 catches in eight appearances. It's likely his NFL career is over.

But that doesn't mean he can't help Brady stay in top form as he awaits his return to the Patriots.

"It was just funny," said Welker. "I'm sitting there trying to have dinner and 'Hey, get your ass up here and let's go throw!' I'm like 'Geez, man, he's going to be running like two-minute drills in his backyard or something.'"
