The Cincinnati Reds pitching staff wrote their collective name into the unenviable history books Monday night.
Right-handed reliever Blake Wood allowed an eighth-inning homer to Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward, giving Cincinnati the MLB record for most in a single season with 242. The blast broke the Detroit Tigers' previous record of 241, set in 1996.
The last-place Reds have allowed 1.6 homers per game this season and 33 more than the next highest team. Left-hander Brandon Finnegan has served up a team-high 29.
