There were concerning scenes at AZ Alkmaar's AFAS Stadion on Thursday, when Stijn Wuytens rose to nod his side into the lead but was knocked out in the process when colliding with Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers.

Some accounts suggested the former Belgium Under-21 international had swallowed his tongue.

The worrying developments were compounded when Wuyten's teammates and manager John van den Brom were seen tearful as their friend lay unmoved on the turf and was then stretchered off in a neck brace. Thankfully, the midfielder regained consciousness minutes later.

In a fiercely contested Group D tilt, 10-man Dundalk nicked a point from the host in the 89th minute, when substitute Ciaran Kilduff rose to emphatically head home.
