Report: United writes off Schweinsteiger as £6.7M player asset

The chances of seeing Bastian Schweinsteiger suit up for Manchester United again are slim to none after the club revealed its latest financial accounts Monday.

United's financial findings for the year ending July 30, 2016 indicate that the German midfielder has been written off as a player asset.

It's believed that a sum of £6.7 million under a section called "exceptional items" is the expense tied to Schweinsteiger, according to several outlets. The figure is the remaining value of the player's transfer fee, according to Simon Stone of the BBC.

In the report, United describes the "exceptional cost" as: "Related to a registrations' impairment charge regarding a reduction in the carrying value of a player no longer considered a member of the first team playing squad."

Before Monday's revelation, Schweinsteiger had yet to appear in a match and has been forced to train away from the first team despite insisting he is prepared to play if called upon.

Schweinsteiger, who signed a three-year contract after leaving Bayern Munich, added that United will be the last European team he will play for - leaving the door open for a possible move to Major League Soccer, the Chinese Super League, or other destinations around the world.
