Report: Packers worried Sitton would become locker-room cancer
The Green Bay Packers' release of All-Pro guard Josh Sitton was the most shocking move on cut-down day, and now we may have some insight into why it happened.
The Packers were concerned that Sitton was upset about the team not prioritizing a contract extension for him, and were worried that his attitude would influence younger players, a source told Pete Dougherty of USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.
According to Dougherty, the 30-year-old Sitton was known to be "brash and opinionated" and at times disparaging of the Packers' personnel decisions. He also refused to participate in some drills.
When the Packers front office noticed Sitton's behavior "filtering to the younger linemen," they decided to cut him.
Sitton went on to sign a three-year, $21.75-million contract with the Chicago Bears.
