Overeem fined $500 for missing weigh-in deadline

Mark J. Rebilas / USA TODAY

Alistair Overeem received a slap on the wrist from the Ohio Athletic Commission on Friday.

The heavyweight title challenger narrowly missed the deadline for the early weigh-ins for UFC 203, and while he made weight, he also has to pay a $500 fine to the commission for his tardiness.

According to reports, Overeem may have been delayed by technical difficulties affecting the elevators at the Wyndham Cleveland hotel.

It does not appear as if Overeem will face any other penalties. He is scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight championship in Saturday's main event.
