The UFC is in the midst of booking one of the foremost names in MMA to return in its farewell to 2016.

Ronda Rousey's rumored comeback against women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Dec. 30 may soon be finalized, according to a tweet from MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani:

Although the bout is all but official, the tweet adds some legitimacy to some long brewing rumors, as UFC president Dana White and trainer Edmond Tarverdyan had previously hinted at Rousey returning before year's end.

"Rowdy" hasn't fought since losing the divisional strap to Holly Holm by way of a vicious head kick KO at UFC 193 last November. The former champion's comeback was further derailed when she underwent knee surgery earlier this summer.

As devastating as the loss to Holm - the first of her career - may have been, Rousey's star power looks like enough to earn her a shot at the title in her next trip to the Octagon.

In Nunes, she'll face a veritable powerhouse with a similar penchant for first-round finishes. The reigning women's bantamweight queen had previously taken to Instagram to tease her first title defense and issue a callout to Rousey, but has since remained mum on her immediate future.

Nunes dethroned Miesha Tate by first-round submission at UFC 200.
