Shoemaker exits game after taking comebacker to head

MLB.com

Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker was hit in the head by a Kyle Seager line drive Sunday against the Seattle Mariners and was helped off the field in the second inning.

The team later announced he suffered a laceration to the side of his head, but was responsive and on his way to receive a CT scan at a local hospital.

Shoemaker was hit in the front, right side of his head by a 105-mph line drive and stumbled around the mound before scarily falling to his hands and knees. He remained conscious but stayed hobbled over on the field while the Angels' medical staff quickly attended to him.

He was then escorted into the dugout while holding a towel to his head as his teammates watched with concern from the mound.

He was replaced by Deolis Guerra.
