He's taking the meaning of utility player to another level.

Melvin "The Machine" Mercedes, playing for the Class-A Stockton Ports, appeared at all nine positions in a game Saturday against the Bakersfield Blaze.

Prior to the game, Mercedes played six different positions during the 2016 season, failing only to appear at first base, center field, and behind the dish. Mercedes finished 1-4 at the plate with a double, a walk and closed out the game pitching a scoreless inning, striking out two.

"It felt great to see the view from every position," Mercedes told MiLB.com.

"I kept thinking about how cool it was that I got to see the game from the perspective of each different player. Everybody was asking, 'Where do I go?' when we switched, but I helped them out. They were cheering me on and just rooting for me to get through the day."
