Dynamo's Cubo Torres joins Cruz Azul on loan with option to buy

Erick "Cubo" Torres' terribly disappointing spell in Houston is all but over.

The Dynamo announced Saturday that the Mexican attacker has been shipped off to Cruz Azul, the 23-year-old going out on loan for the remainder of 2016. The Liga MX side has the option to make the move permanent at the end of the year.

"After careful consideration as a club, and following discussions with Erick, we feel at this time he will benefit from a fresh environment going on loan with Cruz Azul," Dynamo general manager Matt Jordan said. "We will be monitoring his progress and wish him well while away on loan."

Torres, 23, was expected to lead the Dynamo attack when he signed for the club in December of 2014 on the back of a goal-laden spell with now-defunct Chivas USA. After spending the opening half of the 2015 season on loan with Chivas Guadalajara, Torres finally arrived at the BBVA Compass Stadium last summer.

To say the Designated Player hasn't delivered the expected punch up front would be an understatement.

Languishing on the bench for much of his time with the Dynamo, Torres has made just 22 appearances - only seven of which as a starter - and has yet to find the back of the net.

He's played only 401 minutes this season, providing a sole assist in 11 matches.
