Watch: Yankees prospect whiffs 11 straight batters

Jonathan Holder had the type of outing that every pitcher dreams of.

The New York Yankees pitching prospect, who's currently playing for the team's Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, came oh so close to a picture-perfect relief outing on Sunday. Holder struck out the first 11 batters he faced in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 3-1 win over Rochester, before a John Ryan Murphy single ended the run with two out in the ninth inning. Holder recovered, though, and struck out the following hitter to end the game and finish with an incredible 12 strikeouts in 13 batters faced.

The major-league record for consecutive strikeouts in one game is 10, set by Hall of Famer Tom Seaver in 1970. Only one other pitcher in big-league history - Doug Fister in 2012 - has even struck out nine straight batters in a game.

"I've been doing this a long time and that was something," Rochester manager Mike Quade told Kevin Oklobzija of the Democrat and Chronicle. "Holder was as good as he could be."

Holder, a sixth-round pick of the Yankees in 2014, owns a 0.89 ERA and has struck out 35 while walking none since being promoted to Triple-A in late July.
