Report: Duke's Thomas Sirk out for season with Achilles injury

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk is out for the season after suffering a setback to an Achilles injury, according to Steve Wiseman of the Durham Herald-Sun.

Sirk has sustained three Achilles injuries since 2013 and recently tore the tendon in February during offseason workouts.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior is coming off his best season, completing 251-of-427 attempts for 2625 yards and 16 touchdowns, while leading Duke to its first bowl victory since 1961. Sirk was named co-MVP in the win over Indiana in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Head coach David Cutcliffe announced earlier in the week that freshman Daniel Jones has looked good in practice but it's likely Parker Boehme will fill the position with Sirk out.

Duke opens the season Sept. 3 against North Carolina Central.
