Auburn named Sean White the starting quarterback for the Tigers' season opener Sept. 3 against Clemson.
White beat out Jeremy Johnson and junior college transfer John Franklin III for the job. The 6-foot, 200-pound sophomore replaced Johnson midway through the 2015 season.
"I'm more comfortable. I'm older," White said after the announcement.
"He's earned it," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. "He's a guy that has experience in our offense. He's a tough guy. He's in a good spot to lead this team. The team's going to rally around him so I'm excited for him."
White completed 83-of-143 attempts for 1,166 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing four interceptions.
Malzahn didn't mention who'll back up White against Clemson.
