Report: Donte Whitner to visit with Panthers

The Carolina Panthers will work out veteran free-agent safety Donte Whitner on Friday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing a source.
Whitner was released from the Cleveland Browns in early April, which caused the veteran to go longer than expected without signing because most teams had spent their free-agency budget by that point.
The Panthers don't have a need at starting safety with Kurt Coleman and Tre Boston on the roster, but Whitner could fill a similar role held by Roman Harper last season as the veteran member of the secondary.
Whitner has played 10 seasons in the league split between the Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Buffalo Bills with three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances between 2012-14.
