Wisconsin's Dan Voltz forced to quit football due to injury

Mary Langenfeld / USA TODAY Sports

Wisconsin senior offensive lineman Dan Voltz has been forced to give up his football career due to a knee injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Voltz battled the injury bug last season, missing six contests due to knee troubles that required surgery. The Badgers hoped their former second-team All-Big Ten center could get healthy for his final season, but such a scenario wasn't in the cards.

As a standout lineman for Wisconsin, Voltz helped pave the way for former running back Melvin Gordon to enjoy monstrous seasons in 2013 and 2014.

Voltz plans to remain with the Badgers in a coaching role.
